If there's one thing i learned over the last few weeks it's that people get extremely triggered when you tell them the cold hard truth that they're getting a useless college degree but you guys also showed so much love on my video last week where i talked CIPD assignment help about the most regretted college majors so as promised here's a video on the best college majors for the future the world is changing super quickly i mean just look at what's happened over the last few months but that also means that the majors that were really popular with our parents might not be the best for us so it's really important you go beyond what your parents are telling you and really explore all of your options to make sure you're choosing the best major for you.
Today i'll share 4 things you need to be looking for in a college major and five college majors that are only going to become more and more valuable throughout our lifetimes hey everybody my name is hasham khan and welcome to income over outcome where i give you college career and of course personal finance tips with college being more expensive than ever before and the job market being so competitive it's more important now than ever to make sure you're choosing the right college major so many people end up regretting their college majors because they never really use them they really just wasted a bunch of time and money in college and trust me you don't want to do that despite what you hear by all these millionaire gurus online college is still the number one way to improve your chances of success but it really does depend on how much value your major brings if you choose a major that offers you no real skills to help you stand out like english with over 42 percent of people who major in regret then you might as well just take your money and light it on fire which i would actually never do now that may sound overwhelming but the process of choosing a major doesn't have to be stressful and you don't even need to know what exactly you want to do for the rest of your life i know i didn't and you shouldn't be expected to either there are a lot of really good options out there that don't box you into one career or industry for the rest of your life and you're bound to find something that aligns with your interests the main thing you need to be looking for in a college major is growth the demand for people with skills that major gives you needs to be growing if demand is going down or even if it's staying the same that's going to make it harder for you to find a job the fastest growing industry by far over the next decade or so will be healthcare tech is also really high up there so if you go into one of these two industries you're basically guaranteeing yourself a job and number two is versatility i touched on this in my video last week but i don't expect you to know what exactly you want to do when you're 18 years old i know for sure i didn't notice how earlier i said the demand for the skills that major is giving you should go up well a lot of people just look at the name of the major not the skills but the skills are the most important part the ideal major gives you skills that allow you to work in a bunch of different industries or if you stay in the same industry have a bunch of different career paths having a versatile major is one way of making sure it will always be useful to you number three for me is pay i actually want my major to support the lifestyle i want to live a lot of people say money doesn't matter to them at all but be real with yourself money does matter to everybody to a certain degree if you truly didn't care about money at all you wouldn't even be thinking about working a job for eight hours a day number four might just be a personal thing but i really appreciate a major that is unique and can help me stand out it's also human nature to want to work with people who come from interesting backgrounds so having a unique major can really be a powerful tool in getting you a job or even getting into grad school put yourself in someone else's shoes would you be more drawn to the 10th communications major you interviewed that day or the person who walks in with an international business major you'll notice the 10 majors i talked about last week didn't check any of these boxes but the five i'm about to talk about right now definitely do these are all high paying majors that don't box you into one job or career and they can really help you stand out that brings me to the first major which is international business now this wasn't really a thing 10 or 20 years ago but the fact that the world is becoming more and more interconnected means that in order to be successful in business you really need to understand how the world operates and how to work with different types of people any business degree gives you a really valuable set of skills from technical skills like analyzing data to soft skills like public speaking but international business adds on to that by going into things like international politics one of my favorite things about business degrees is that they open up so many doors which is perfect if you don't know exactly what you want to do and international business is only better than that you could work in a traditional role at a bank or work in a whole other industry like healthcare and even for the government if you think that one day you might want to work outside of the country and you should definitely explore this major as the world becomes more connected and companies grow to become more global the demand for international business majors is only going to rise and the average salary starting right out of undergrad is around 70 000 which means you would be making more than the average american at just 22 years old number two is data science now this might sound like some really hard and insane thing but remember how in elementary school and middle school they had us look at these bar charts pie graphs and line graphs that's basically what data science is as a data scientist you would be working with a bunch of data to create all those charts and explain them to people to help them make really important decisions a few years ago data actually passed oil as being the most valuable asset so being able to work with it and making it easy for other people to understand is a very valuable skill to have literally every single field uses data so as a data scientist you can basically work in any industry you want to you could help huge companies like google improve their products or help hospitals figure out what procedures are most effective you could even work for the government to help them make decisions on things like environmental science and of course data is extremely important to the one thing everyone is hyped up about artificial intelligence if you like problem solving and have critical thinking skills then data science or data analytics would be a really great measure for you the possibilities of what you could actually do are endless and the growth is actually insane with the whole industry expected to grow by 37 percent annually the median starting salary for a data scientist is also ridiculously high at 95 000. in my opinion the field is extremely underrated and not enough people talk about it number three is something you should already be familiar with if you keep up with my channel and that's any combination of a business degree with a healthcare degree like healthcare administration or health information management with these degrees you can get a bunch of different types of jobs in the healthcare field but you also gain enough skills to venture out if you really want to with healthcare growing so quickly the need for people who understand the business side of healthcare is climbing feel free to check out this video right over here if you want more details on majors that combine business and healthcare i'll also link it at the very end of this video coming in at number four we have another really cool major and that's cyber security it's really unfortunate but every single company nowadays even small businesses have to worry about being hacked just a few weeks ago 130 celebrities like barack obama jeff bezos and elon musk had their twitter accounts hacked which allow the hackers to steal over 120 000 dollars from random twitter users things like this are only becoming more and more common if you work in cyber security though it'll be your job to make sure hacks like this don't happen in the first place and when they do you'll shut them down as quickly as possible it's almost like being james bond but instead of fighting and killing people to save millions of lives all you do is destroy someone's computer to do the same thing some people actually say the next war is going to be a cyber war and we've already seen things like that start to happen cyber security is actually expected to grow at an insane rate and that's not slowing down anytime soon the industry is expected to grow by 30 annually over the next few years of course you could work with big tech companies like twitter but there's also really strong demand for cyber security majors in the government specifically in space and defense and also the banking industry in school you'll learn computer programming and problem solving skills which are really important in general so even if you don't want to work in cyber security you'll have no problem finding a job in another industry the average starting salary is around 70 000 but it really depends on what industry you choose to start out in some industries actually offer close to six figures but even if you don't get that starting out you can definitely expect to earn six figures with a few years of experience number five is for all of you who think the last few majors were too technical and that's project management and this might be one of the most versatile majors you could possibly get just like the name says project managers manage projects from start to finish product management is actually a dream job for people who want to get into tech but don't like sitting around computers all day coding demand for project managers is expected to grow by 28 and your salary really just depends on what industry you're in and what certifications you have two of the most common certifications for project managers are lean six sigma and your pmp certification it seems like the highest project management salaries are with tech and the pharmaceutical industry which has an average salary of 125 000 but the more certifications you have and the more experience you have the higher you're going to be paid if you haven't seen my video on the least regretted college majors you should definitely check it out i'll link it right here and at the end of this video i'm also curious as to which majors i talked about today sound the coolest to you so please let me know in the comments and don't forget to hit that notification bell because if you don't you won't know the next time i post which is usually on tuesdays and fridays until next time take care you.
I believe one the best major to select for doing MBA in is Project management because I've also done my masters in it and now I'm a professional editor in Dubai and I'm really happy about it because my masters helps me a lot in my career.
